John Henry "Chick" Arnold, Jr.

John Henry "Chick" Arnold, Jr., 75, of Bronx, New York, passed away on December 5, 2023. He was born on February 9, 1948 and grew up in Milledgeville, Georgia. John was a giving person, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether it was providing a place to stay, financial assistance, or a ride, he was there to support others. He had a thirst for knowledge and shared his wisdom with others, enlightening them about our ancestral roots. John is survived by his loving wife, Frances, his children, Amy, Shawn (Jeannine), Taniqua (Phillip), Monique, Kareem, Kionna (Kaliph). He also leaves behind his siblings, Morris Arnold, and Rose Marie Williams, along with his best friends, Abdullah, and Ms. Bernice. John was immensely proud of his grandchildren, Jalen, Moses, Aaron, Taylor, Jayshawn, Vicente, Teshonda, Daevon, Deonte, Kiahni, Anaya, Kayden, Sharnay, Kyle, Noah, Nehemiah, and Kacie. He is preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Butts Arnold, his father, John Henry Arnold, Sr., his brother, Robert, and his son, Moses. John attended J. F. Boddie High School (Class of 1967). While in high school he played football and ran track and was one of the fastest in his school. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served from 1968-1974. As an Army medic, John quickly moved up the ranks to Specialist, a promotion he received well before many of his peers. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He traveled to different states before settling into the Bronx. After his military service, he pursued a career as a Drywall Finisher (Construction Worker) and retired at the age of 68. While working as a Drywall finisher, he trained many of his family and friends. He was one of the top in his company and oversaw many staff. No matter if a person was an apprentice or an expert, he made sure they got a decent pay. In his free time, John enjoyed listening to music, watching westerns, dancing, spending time with his family, traveling, and making his famous "Gourmet Banana Pudding."

John was a leader in his community and actively participated in charitable events. He along with other community leaders organized annual block parties on Morris Ave, which became a highlight of the neighborhood. John also hosted tailgate parties, bringing the community and his family together. Throughout his childhood and adulthood, he was always a take charge person. He was a caregiver, and always responsible. If you asked anyone, they would say he was "a Good Man." He would go out of his way to take care of people. Once he considered you family, he would do anything for you and protect you by all means. John Henry "Chick" Arnold, Jr. will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His generosity, knowledge, and love for his family and community will forever be cherished. May his soul rest in peace.
