Celebration of Life for John Henry Thomas of Athens,Georgia will be held on Friday November 16, 2012. Services will begin at 2:30p.m. at The Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery 2617 Vinson Highway Milledgeville, Georgia. .John entered into eternal rest on Sunday November 11, 2012 at The Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville where he had been a resident for the past two years.John was a devout christian and found great pleasure in spreading the word. He was an avid fisherman,loved walking daily until his health no longer allowed. He was known for his wit and his favorite saying "If you don't know any better,you can't do any better.He leaves two daughters both of New York,Gwendolyn Taylor, and Chantelle (Andre) Peterson.Grand-daughters Zoe and Atira Peterson.Four sisters Ruth Rivers,LuNeal(Willie)Bolton,Nancy B.Thomas, and Sarah N.Robinson,a brother Harvin (Ida)Gay all of Athens.Uncle John as he was affectionately known also leaves a host of nieces, nephews to include his " Guardian Angel" Angela Wilson.He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian B. Thomas,son John H.Thomas, Jr. and a sister Rebecca Butler.Viewing will be on Friday November 16,2012 from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. at The Augustus Austin Memorial Chapel of Peoples Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
