Obituary

Lucius Walker, 103, of Milledgeville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Graveside Services Celebrating his life will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00 am at Una Memorial Park, Old Monticello Road Milledgeville, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Peoples Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 pm on Thursday evening.

Lucius Walker was born to the parentage of Walsie Thomas Walker and Dave Walker. He grew up with two siblings Willie Edward Walker, Sr. and Thelma Walker. As he got older, he attended Walkers' Grove School where he received his 7th grade education. Because of his abilities he grew up reading the Bible to his grandfather and he was a wiz in math. After completing the Walkers' Grove School, he attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School in Macon for a short time; but was later called back home to work the farm to help pay for his younger brother and sister to complete their high school education.

As a citizen of Baldwin County, Lucius grew to be a young man who later was called to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enlisted in the Army in October 1942 until he was honorably discharged in November 1945.

While on leave for a few days, Lucius met a very beautiful young teacher, Mary Virginia Foulks from Lewisburg, Kentucky. They fell in love and were married on February 4, 1943. Within a few years, two children were born, Una Darlene and Fifina. Their oldest daughter, Una Darlene passed at the age of 11 due to a birth defect when Fifina was just 6 months old. He loved his family. Being a kind and dependable husband and father was of the utmost importance to Lucius and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. He was married to his beloved Mary for 73 years.

When Lucius returned to the states after serving overseas in Europe as a Sergeant, he became a cabinet builder and a general contractor for 40 years. He built many homes in Milledgeville and in other communities across the state of Georgia.

Because of his extensive skills and knowledge of the construction industry, in 1972, Mayor Walter B. Williams of Milledgeville hired him to be the City's Building and Code Inspector. He was the first African American to hold that position in Milledgeville, Georgia. He held this position until he retired in 1987.

He was an active member of Zion Church of God In Christ where he served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board and Chairman of the Trustee Board. As a deacon he was instrumental in coordinating a Food Program for the homeless and a Homeless Shelter. He was a Bible scholar, a helper to mankind, and his wisdom guided so many people. He had a great love for young people. Even though he was a century old, he served and worshipped God daily. His life was the epitome of James 1:6, "if any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." God has truly endowed him with wisdom. He was a man of courage, of dedication, and of faith. "Yea, a man may say, thou hast faith, and I have works show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works." Lucius Walker has proven his faith by his works.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walsie and Dave Walker; his wife, Mary Foulks Walker; his daughter, Una Darlene Walker; and his sister, Thelma Walker Livingston.

He will forever be remembered as a loving daddy, granddaddy, uncle, and cousin.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memories; his daughter and son-in-law, Fifina and Larry Stephens, and his grandchildren, Corey Tharon Stephens, and Una D'Lynne Stephens; his brother, Willie Edward Walker, Sr.; his niece, Walsetta Walker Miller; his nephew, Willie Edward Walker, Jr.; his special cousin, Carmell Dupree, the Foulks Family, his goddaughter, Geraldine Havior Simmons; his godson, Roger Laird (aka) Radar, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
