Graveside Services Celebrating The Life of Deacon Matthew Calvin Lawson, 91 of Milledgeville, Georgia will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at Heritage Memorial Park , 371 Log Cabin Road, Milledgeville, Georgia. Pastor Toney E. Fraley will officiate. Deacon Lawson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at his residence with his loving family at his side.

He was a lifelong devoted member of Vaughn Chapel Baptist Church where he served as an usher, a member of the male chorus, and a member of the trustee and financial boards. In 1973 he was ordained as a deacon and eventually served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. He would faithfully attend various churches during homecomings, revivals and other special occasions in the community.

Deacon Lawson retired from Georgia Power after twenty-five years of service as a locomotive mechanic. He was very talented in many fields as a plumber, electrician, and an auto mechanic just to name a few.

Deacon Lawson was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Annie Clyde McDowell-Lawson, brothers, Clarence Davis, Horace A. Davis and Charles Harris. He leaves an abundance of cherished memories with his daughters, Angelia Lawson, Abigale (Horace) Stembridge, Edith L. Brookins, Frances Lawson, and Bernadette Lawson-Phillips all of Milledgeville, Georgia and Debra D. (Marion) Rhodes of Warner Robins, Georgia; one son, Matthew Calvin (Coretta) Lawson, Jr. of Milledgeville, Georgia; three sisters, Willie Mae Ogburn, Ernestine (Charles) Tasco, and Olea Young of Philadelphia, PA, sister-in-law, Lizzie Harris, 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
