Dr. Melvin Murphy, a beloved physician of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, peacefully entered rest on September 9, 2026. A devoted physician and compassionate caregiver, his life will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 23, 2026; 12:00 Noon at Willow Lake Cemetery, 1854 Willow Lake Road in Fort Valley, Georgia. Retha Evans Ezell (apostle) will officiate.

Born in Fort Valley, Dr. Murphy pursued his passion for medicine by moving to Augusta, Georgia in 1973 for further education. His commitment to health and service saw him serve over 20,000 patients during his distinguished career. A respected member of the Detroit Medical Society, Michigan Medical Society, and Wayne County Medical Society, Dr. Murphy’s dedication left an indelible mark on those he served.

He shared a beautiful life with his late wife, Wanda, and is also preceded in death by his beloved parents: Vincent, Sr. and Carrie Murphy, his brother, Vincent Murphy, Jr., and his niece Valeria Esteves. 

Dr. Murphy's legacy lives on through his cherished family: his brother Llewellyn (Shirley) Murphy of Idaho Falls; his sister-in-law Mary Murphy of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Tatania Fluellen of Warner Robins, Georgia; and his son, Noah Houston of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Acknowledgments go to Deborah Young, who faithfully supported the Melvin Murphy Primary Care Practice for over 47 years, reflecting the lasting bonds formed throughout his practice. And Neariah Houston, who Dr. Murphy loved like a daughter.
